Builders' Merchants to Remain Open During Lockdown 3
Builders’ merchants and garden centres are essential retailers, and there are no restrictions on DIY products

Builders’ merchants will remain open during the third national lockdown in England, the government has confirmed, and it is understood that there are no restrictions on essential DIY products.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Monday night that a third lockdown will last until mid-February, amid a sharp rise in coronavirus cases due to a more contagious new variant.
Builders’ merchants and suppliers of building products can remain open because they are classed as essential retailers, but unlike the first lockdown last year, there will be no restrictions on essential DIY purchases. Garden centres have also been classed as an essential retailer.
Construction sites, including building work on self build and renovation sites, can also continue to operate, and tradespeople can still work in other people’s homes.

Builders’ Merchants: Tips Before You Travel
Builders’ merchants are advising customers to visit their websites in the first instance before making any trips to stores.
Merchants will still be operating home delivery and Click & Collect services, so customers can continue to place orders online.
However, if you plan to visit the store to browse products then it is recommended to ring your local store in advance to see whether the products you’re interested in are available.
